How to Care for Boski, Wash & Wear and Cotton Fabrics
The right washing, ironing and storage habits can double the life of your suits. Care instructions for boski, wash & wear and cotton — what to do and what to avoid.
A good suit is an investment, and most fabric damage happens at home — in the washing machine, under a too-hot iron, or in a damp cupboard. These simple habits will keep your kurtas looking new for years.
Caring for wash & wear
- Machine wash on a gentle cycle in cold or lukewarm water; hot water is what dulls the colour over time.
- Wash dark colours inside out, separately from lights, for the first two or three washes.
- Hang to dry in shade. Direct afternoon sun fades dyes faster than any number of washes.
- Iron on medium heat. Most wash & wear barely needs it if you hang the suit as soon as it dries.
Caring for boski
Boski's soft sheen is its beauty — and the first thing ruined by rough handling.
- Dry clean formal boski suits, especially in darker shades. If you must wash at home, hand wash gently in cold water with a mild detergent and never wring or twist the fabric.
- Iron on low heat, ideally with a thin cotton cloth between the iron and the fabric to protect the sheen.
- Store on a hanger in a breathable cotton cover — not in sealed plastic, which traps moisture.
Caring for cotton and lawn
- Cotton can shrink slightly on the first wash — always wash unstitched cotton fabric once before giving it to your tailor.
- Iron while very slightly damp for the crispest finish; fully dry cotton fights the iron.
- Starch is optional: light starch gives that fresh crisp look, but repeated heavy starching weakens fibres over time.
Storage tips for every fabric
Keep suits in a dry, ventilated cupboard away from direct sunlight. In monsoon season, add a few silica gel sachets to absorb moisture. For fabrics you wear rarely, take them out and air them every few weeks — it prevents mustiness and lets you spot any issue early.
